160 Palestinian cars vandalized in Jerusalem neighborhood

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — More than 160 Palestinian cars were vandalized in a Palestinian neighborhood of Jerusalem, while anti-Arab slogans were written near them, according to what the Israeli police announced in a statement Monday.

Police said, “More than 160 vehicles were vandalized in a Palestinian neighborhood in the city, and anti-Arab slogans were written.”

Settlers were accused of carrying out the operation.

Among the slogans that were written in red and in the Hebrew language, according to pictures circulated on social media sites, “There is no place for enemies in the country” and “Arabs and enemies are equal” and “When Jews are stabbed, we will not remain silent,” with the Star of David drawn under it.

For their part, citizens told Agence France Presse that the vandal affected the tires of about 180 vehicles that were parked on the main street near the settlement “Reichs Shuafat.”

The head of the Shuafat Village Council, Ishaq Abu Khudair, confirmed that the surveillance cameras showed “a group of people who damage the tires of the vehicles”, explaining that they included his car and the cars of his sons.

“Their racist state released their hands to tamper with the property of the Palestinians (…) They stopped people from doing their jobs,” he added.

“I went out at six in the morning to deliver my daughter to her school, and I found out about it. My daughter went in the rain to school, and I did not go to work,” said Maysa Abu Khudair, who damaged the tires of her vehicle.

She noted that her family’s surveillance cameras revealed that “three masked settlers infiltrated dawn into the neighborhood and damaged the tires of the cars that were parked on the main street, even those in the parking of private homes.”

“They are continuing to search for suspects who fled the scene,” the police statement said.

And similar accusations have been made against Arabs in similar incidents to the “price-paying” group of Israeli right-wing activists and extremist settlers who have for years adopted a revenge policy and have attacked Palestinian targets.

The “price-paying” group aims to sabotage and destroy Palestinian property, burn cars and Christian and Muslim places of worship, and destroy or uproot olive trees.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem in 1967 and then annexed it in a move that was not recognized by the international community.

Israel regards all of Jerusalem as its unified capital, while the Palestinians want to declare East Jerusalem the capital of their future state.
