SYRIA (OBSERVATORY) – About 500 Syrian refugees left southern Lebanon to return to an area near the Syrian capital Damascus.
This is a rare occurrence of a large return of Syrian refugees who fled Syria as a result of the civil war.
The refugees gathered in the Shebaa area in southern Lebanon and were taken by a convoy of buses across the border into Syria.
The return process was organized by the Lebanese and Syrian authorities.
The United Nations has consistently warned that the situation in Syria is not suitable for the return of refugees.
