UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – The US Navy strike group, led by the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Harry Truman, will leave on Wednesday from Norfolk, Va., To patrol in the region of the Middle East. This was reported on Tuesday by representatives of the US Navy.
According to them, the aircraft carrier will be accompanied by a missile cruiser and four destroyers. At the first stage of the campaign, a frigate of the German Navy will join them.
As the representative of the US Navy Lieutenant Cla Morgan said in a circulated statement, “this is a planned campaign”. The shock group will operate in the zones of operational responsibility of the 5th and 6th US Navy fleets, she added. The zone of responsibility of the 5th Fleet includes the western part of the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf, the 6th Fleet is deployed in the Mediterranean.
Morgan declined to specify when the carrier group is expected to arrive in these areas and how long it will be there. “We will not discuss the timeframe for the movement of this group,” the lieutenant said, “the Navy is committed to supporting the US Central Command in carrying out its tasks related to maritime security.”
The deployment of this strike group takes place against the backdrop of an aggravation of the situation in Syria caused by allegations about the use of chemical weapons in the Syrian city of the Duma on Saturday. President of the United States Donald Trump said on Monday that he would decide within 24-48 hours whether to apply military force against the Syrian authorities in this regard.
In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation these statements were called informational embezzlement. Representatives of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties conducted a survey of the Duma on April 9, but found no signs of using chemical weapons.
