UNITED KINGDOM (OBSERVATORY) – The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Great Britain Amber Rudd resigned amid the scandal surrounding the “generation of Windrush”, Sky News reported.
In the UK, a scandal broke out around the so-called “Windrush generation” – people from Africa and from the Caribbean Islands, who were invited to the country after World War II to compensate for the shortage of labor.
This week at the disposal of the British media came documents of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, indicating that the ministry set targets for the number of deportations of migrants. At the same time, Rudd said on Wednesday that there are no targets.
“British Prime Minister Teresa May accepted the resignation of Amber Rudd from the post of Interior Minister,” Sky News reported.
On Friday, Rudd made a statement on Twitter, in which she apologized for not being aware of the existence of targets for the number of deportations from the country.
Windrush – the name of the ship, which delivered 492 migrants to the UK on June 22, 1948. It was recently revealed that many relatives of those who came to the United Kingdom from the late 1940s to the 1970s were treated by the British authorities as illegal migrants: some were forced to leave, others were warned about possible deportation, they lost their jobs and the right to medical care.
