Android users warned of the dangers of wireless headphones

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Cyber-specialists from the universities of Iowa and Purdue in the United States found that hackers have learned to crack some models of Android smartphones through wireless accessories.

To gain access to the device, attackers use the AT-interface. They send commands to the gadget, with the help of which they transfer it to an insecure connection. This allows you to intercept calls and access personal data.

Information security expert Aleksey Grishin told 360 TV that hackers attack wireless accessories — watches and headphones — as they enter the phone’s “trusted zone” to gain access to the device.

According to the expert, headphones are used for such attacks, because it is convenient to intercept conversation recordings with them.

“The conversation intercepted in this way will be so inconspicuous for the victim that the vulnerabilities in the headphones give a lot of space for espionage,” the expert explained.

But you can protect yourself from intruders, says Anastasia Ernais-Escarsa, PR consultant and co-founder of SingularityU Moscow.

“Installing service packs reduces the risk, as device manufacturers with each new update close the vulnerabilities found in the software,” she said.

According to her, the reason for the majority of hacks is the non-observance of security rules: it is better not to discuss some topics on the phone, photos should not reach outsiders, and passwords should be updated on average once a month and a half.
