Arab countries have made a mistake about Syria, the UAE state minister said

SAUDI ARABIA (OBSERVATORY) – The Arab countries made strategic mistakes with regard to the conflict in Syria, allowing to decide the fate of this country to non-Arab countries, said on Tuesday at the conference of Arab political thought FIKR 16 the state foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates Anwar Gargash.

“Last week, a meeting was held in Syria, on which neither the Syrians nor the Arab countries (the meeting of the presidents of Russia, Iran and Turkey – ed.) Were made. The Arab countries made strategic mistakes with regard to the Syrian conflict, the League of Arab countries was supposed to render more significant political influence, “Gargash said.

He pointed out that in the Arab world there should be the main Arab core, and such major states in the Arab world as Saudi Arabia and Egypt with the support of other Arab countries should play a major role, but so far this has not become a reality.

In 2011, armed conflict continues in Syria. At the talks of the guarantor countries of the armistice in Syria – Russia, Turkey and Iran – on 4 April an agreement was reached on the introduction of de-escalation zones. As a result, four such zones have been set up: one in Idlib, which includes part of the province of Hama, the second – to the north of Homs, the third – in the area of East Ghouta in the suburbs of Damascus and the fourth – in the province of Deraa on the Syrian border with Jordan.
