SAUDI ARABIA (OBSERVATORY) – The Arab League stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation in the legal, judicial and security fields among the Arab countries to face the current challenges that plague the region and the world at large.
This came during the opening of the third meeting of the joint committee of experts and representatives of the Ministries of Justice and Interior in the Arab countries, which began yesterday at the Arab League to discuss the issue of criminalization of payment of ransom.
The Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ambassador Fadhel Javad, called for the promotion of joint Arab action to counter the grave danger posed by the availability of money to terrorist organizations, enabling them to recruit, instigate and acquire weapons and equipment of all kinds.
The same on the need to stand on one line firmly and strongly in the face of the financing of terrorism and drying its sources to block all terrorist organizations.
He pointed to the decision of the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice and Interior calling for the formation of a joint committee to study the issue of criminalizing the payment of ransom to terrorist organizations by trying to find an Arab legal basis for that.
He pointed out that this was also confirmed by several resolutions of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial and summit levels all forms of extortion by terrorist groups by threats, hostage-taking or ransom for the financing of their terrorist crimes, as well as the need for States to refrain from providing any form of explicit or implicit support to entities or persons involved in terrorist acts.
