Arab League rejects President Trump’s Middle East peace plan

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — The Arab League has announced that it will completely reject and will in no way consider the so-called “Plan of Peace for the Middle East” of US President Donald Trump.

The Arab League convened an extraordinary meeting at the level of Foreign Ministers in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, at the request of Palestine. In the closing statement of the meeting, it was emphasized that the plan presented by Trump is not appropriate to build a just, lasting and inclusive peace, and that it entails entering a new stumbling block in the ongoing 30-year peace talks. .

It also notes that the plan cannot be successful because it contains articles in violation of international law relating to Quds, the Golan Heights, Jewish settlement units and Palestinian refugees. “The Arab League is completely against this plan and will not consider it in any way,” the statement said.

Underlining that the US peace plan in question does not meet even the minimum rights and expectations of the Palestinian people, the statement says that the Arab Peace Initiative adopted in Lebanon in 2002 is the only initiative that can be accepted as solutions for Palestinian-Israeli peace.

Israel cannot go to normalization with Arab countries as long as it does not accept the Arab Peace Initiative which envisions “the formation of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of 1967 with the capital, Eastern Quds, and finding a solution under Resolution 194. adopted by the United Nations Assembly in 1948 on the problem of Palestinian refugees. ”

In a statement, Israel was warned not to try to implement the peace plan in question by ignoring international resolutions. The United States and Israel were also made clear that they were responsible for the results that would result from the policies in question, and the international community was urged to oppose the actions of the occupying government.

Among other things, the statement noted that it would work with countries that favor a just peace against any plan that would rob Palestinian rights and address the UN General Assembly and Security Council. of the UN (KS-UN) as well as other international organizations.
