Armenian opposition leader detained in Yerevan

ARMENIA (OBSERVATORY) –¬†Armenian police on Sunday detained the leader of the ongoing protests in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan, opposition MP Nicole Pachinian.

Police used special light bombs to disperse demonstrators and stop their movement on the streets of the city, and arrested Pachinian.

Local media said that ambulances had begun to arrive at the scene of the clashes.

The arrest came after Pashinyan’s talks on Sunday with new Armenian Prime Minister Serge Sarkisian, which lasted three minutes and ended without results. Sarkisian said Pashinian’s actions were frightening and advised him to return to the law. Pashinian said the protests would continue with a new force.
