Basque group ETA announced a self-dissolution

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – The Basque separatist group ETA has declared a full self-dissolution, the Spanish online edition Diario reported on Wednesday.

“ETA decided to announce the completion of its historical cycle and activities, putting an end to its existence, ETA completely dissolved all its structures and announced the completion of its political initiatives,” – said in a letter to ETA, dated April 16 and published on Wednesday.

The left radical organization ETA was established in 1959, it advocated the independence of the Basque Country, a region located in the north of Spain and southwest France. She is accused of the death of at least 829 people.

In 2011, the group announced a ceasefire. In late April, the group for the first time in its history brought an apology for the deaths of these people.
