UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — In full accordance with the traditions of experimenting with body types, BMW placed the Concept i4 between the classes: in fact, it is a full-fledged sedan, but it looks like a real coupe. And, obviously, it is in this form that i4 will go to the conveyor.
The word Concept in the name of the novelty hints at the proximity to mass production: BMW usually refers to “search” prototypes as Vision. That is – i Vision – was called the conceptual predecessor of the current premiere, officially wearing pre-production status.
Apparently, the conveyor version of the concept will become an electrical alternative to the traditional BMW 4 Series coupe, even if it gets significantly more doors. At the same time, the electric car will become even more powerful than the current M4 – at least the concept is promised to be equipped with a power plant with a output of 530 hp, which will allow it to gain the first 100 km / h in about 4 seconds.
It is assumed that i4 will be equipped with the latest battery pack of 80 kWh, which will weigh about 550 kg. The power reserve on a single charge should be about 600 km, but the value of the new battery is also in its ability to provide quick replenishment of the energy reserve. At 80%, the batteries can be charged in 35 minutes, and in 6 minutes – to get enough electricity to cover 100 km.
Production of the serial BMW i4 should start next year, and the electric car will be assembled together with the “troika” in Munich.
