British ambassador detained for several hours in Iran

Iranian security forces have detained Robert Makar, the British ambassador to Tehran, for several hours, British media reported on Saturday.

The diplomat was detained when he took photographs of participants in protests against the authorities on a mobile phone.

Earlier, Western media reported that thousands of protests against the Iranian authorities were held in the Iranian capital. Demonstrators expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that earlier Iran mistakenly shot down a Ukrainian passenger plane.
