British passports will revert to their old blue color from next month

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Britain will begin returning to using traditional blue passports next month in place of the European Union-colored passports used since 1988, the Home Office said on Saturday.

In favor of withdrawing from the European Union in a 2016 referendum even though it is the French-Dutch company that will prepare the new passports.

“Returning to the distinctive blue and gold design, the British passport will be linked again to our national identity,” said UK Home Secretary Priti Patel. Beginning in mid 2020, all new passports will be blue.

The Home Office said the blue cover represented a return to the original shape of the British passport, which was used for the blue color for the first time in 1921.
