China is ready to help resolve the conflict in the Donbass

China supports the peaceful settlement of the conflict in the Donbass, is ready to help, Chinese Ambassador to Ukraine Du Wei said on Friday.

“The conflict in the east of the country has been going on for more than five years, it has caused great wounds to the whole Ukrainian people. And we, China, a friendly state, we feel this pain in our hearts. Of course, we support a peaceful settlement on the issue of Donbass, we support all parties in resolving this question … We are also ready to make efforts to resolve this issue,” the ambassador said at a briefing.

However, he did not disclose any details regarding assistance.

In April 2014, the Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the self-proclaimed LPR and DPR, which declared independence after the coup in Ukraine in February 2014.

According to the latest UN data, about 13 thousand people became victims of the conflict.

The issue of resolving the situation in the Donbass is being discussed, including during the meetings of the contact group in Minsk, which, since September 2014, has already adopted three documents regulating steps to de-escalate the conflict. However, even after armistice agreements between the parties to the conflict, skirmishes continue.
