China launches first amphibious assault ship (PHOTOS)

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — The launch ceremony of China’s first fully-designed amphibious assault ship took place on Wednesday (September 25th) in Shanghai.

China launched its first amphibious assault ship on Wednesday, 25 September, the country’s defense ministry said.

The ceremony took place in the morning in Shanghai. The national anthem was played and Navy commanders cut the maiden ribbon before breaking the traditional bottle of champagne on the port side.

It is the first such ship fully developed by China , says the People’s Liberation Army.

The vessel should subsequently be subject to equipment adjustment, anchorage and sea trials.
