Chinese authorities recorded a sharp increase in mortality from coronavirus

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Chinese authorities have recorded a sharp increase in mortality from coronavirus. On February 12, 242 people died from pneumonia in Hubei Province, a record high in identifying a new disease.

Over the last day in the Chinese province of Hubei, 242 people died from the new coronavirus, which was the largest daily indicator since the onset of the disease. “There were 242 new deaths in the province,” the report said on the provincial government’s website, which became the focus of the outbreak of coronavirus.

Earlier, a record number of deaths from a new disease was recorded, according to Reuters, on February 10, when 103 people died. In total, 1310 people died of coronavirus by February 13 in Hubei Province, 1036 of them in Wuhan.

During the day, 14,840 new cases of coronavirus pneumonia were reported in Hubei Province. The total number of cases reached 48 206. Of these, 33 693 patients are still being treated in the hospital, of which 5647 are in critical condition. 3441 people recovered and were discharged home.

According to Reuters, the sharp increase in the death toll is due to the fact that the provinces began to use a new method to detect the disease. Previously, a ribonucleic acid test was used for this, and the detection of the disease could take several days. Now doctors have begun to use computed tomography to detect pulmonary infection.

The first cases of the new virus were reported in Wuhan, Hubei Province, at the end of 2019. On February 11, the death toll in China exceeded 1000 people. Later cases of the disease were recorded in many countries, including the EU and the USA. On January 31, two people – Chinese citizens – with a confirmed case of coronavirus, were hospitalized in Russia. Both of them are discharged.

One, a Chinese student at the Tyumen Industrial University, was discharged from the Tyumen hospital on February 11 . Another patient, a resident of Transbaikalia, was discharged on February 12 from the Transbaikal Regional Infectious Diseases Hospital of Chita.
