Coronavirus: after France, the virus isolated in Italy

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Italy, which has in turn succeeded in isolating the new coronavirus, hopes that this discovery will make it possible to study and better understand the means of stopping the spread of the disease in the world.

Researchers at Spallanzani Hospital in Rome have successfully isolated the new coronavirus , which should be an important step towards a vaccine and treatment. The news was announced this Sunday, February 2 by the Italian Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza.

“Isolating the virus means having the opportunity to study, see and better understand what can be done to stop the spread,” he said, media reports said.

On his Twitter account, he presented “the three Italian women who isolated a strain of the coronavirus. Pride for our country”.

He said he thanked “through them” all the researchers, doctors, nurses and staff of the National Health Service.

Still according to Roberto Speranza, it is “a step for the entire scientific community that will accelerate research on this disease. Italy has one of the best health services in the world and has proven it again today”.

The Italian government had declared a state of emergency on January 31 in order to mobilize a maximum of means to avoid an epidemic after two first cases of coronavirus were registered in the country in a couple of Chinese tourists.

The second country in Europe after France

The coronavirus has already been isolated in China and then by an Australian team, as well as by researchers from the Pasteur Institute in Paris who have managed to culture strains of the virus.

Meanwhile, the European Union has decided to allocate 10 million euros for research.

According to a report carried out on February 2 in China, the number of deaths has risen to 304, while 45 deaths have been recorded in the past 24 hours. The number of confirmed infections rose to 14,500.

In addition, the first death has been reported abroad in the Philippines , said the World Health Organization (WHO), adding that the victim was a Chinese who was infected before arriving in the country.
