Coronavirus death toll rises to 1,868 worldwide

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — There are currently 73,255 confirmed cases worldwide, including 1,868 fatalities. 93 new deaths were confirmed on 17 February.

The number of people infected with the new type of coronavirus in the Chinese province of Hubei has reached almost 60 thousand people, 93 new deaths have been reported, the regional health committee said.

The number of patients in the region per day increased by 1807 to 59 989 people. A total of 1789 people died from coronavirus in the province.

An outbreak of pneumonia caused by a new strain of coronavirus originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan last December and has since spread to more than 20 countries around the world.

The number of people who have died from coronavirus in China’s Hubei province has reached 1,789, the regional health committee reported on Monday.

93 new deaths were confirmed in the province on 17 February. 1,807 new cases were registered, of which 1,600 were in Wuhan alone. A total of 7,862 patients were discharged from hospitals.

The virus is thought to have originated at a “wet market” in Wuhan.

The number of convalescing increased by 1223 people, a total of 7862 patients treated for coronavirus were discharged from hospitals.

On December 31, 2019, Chinese authorities informed the World Health Organization about an outbreak of unknown pneumonia in Wuhan in the central part of the country (Hubei Province). Experts have identified the causative agent of the disease – this is a new coronavirus. WHO recognized the outbreak as an emergency of international importance and gave the disease its official name – COVID-2019.
