Coronavirus: number of infected in the world is close to 81 thousand

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — The number of infected with the new type of coronavirus COVID-19 in the world amounted to almost 81 thousand people.

This was announced by the head of the European Regional Bureau of the World Health Organization Hans Kluge.

2.7 thousand cases were fatal.

According to Kluge, more than 78 thousand cases of infection (96.5 percent) are in China, where an outbreak of pneumonia caused by the virus was initially recorded. Moreover, as noted by Kluge, mortality from this disease in the PRC has decreased.

Kluge added that an effective way to treat the disease caused by the new coronavirus has not yet been developed. Nevertheless, according to him, there is no reason for panic.

In Europe, infections have been reported in 13 countries. Most of the cases – 374 people – in Italy, 12 infected died from complications. Andrea Ammon, director of the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said that the situation with coronavirus in this country could be repeated in other European countries. She called on the European Union to be prepared “for the implementation of the scenario for the emergence of extensive areas of the spread of coronavirus” on its territory.

An outbreak caused by the new coronavirus disease was recorded at the end of December 2019 in the Chinese city of Wuhan. The World Health Organization (WHO) recognized it as an emergency of international proportions. Outside the PRC, infections were detected in 38 countries.
