Damascus: US and Europe ignore the fight against terrorism

SYRIA (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — The way in which the United States and European countries fight against terrorism is a testament to their lack of political will, said Faisal Mekdad, Syrian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Speaking at the 18th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), held in Baku, Azerbaijan, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad expressed regret that the United States and European countries do make no effort to fight terrorism.

“The United States and Europe are unaware of the fight against terrorism and are selective in this fight, which ultimately reveals a lack of political will,” he said.

At the same time, he stressed that the fight against terrorism should not be used as a pretext to intervene in the affairs of foreign countries.

“The Astana mechanism has proven to be effective and useful. The solution to the Syrian crisis should be based on a dialogue, without foreign intervention , in order to achieve the ultimate goal: the maintenance of the unity and territorial integrity of Syria, “added the Deputy Minister.
