Defense: How did the US defenses fail to repel Aramco’s attacks?

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — A Russian defense official said that the attack using drones, which hit the facilities of Saudi Aramco, shows the weakness of the American defense means that protect the airspace of the Kingdom.

In comments to the agency “Interfax” Russian official said: “The question arises is how it happened that such a powerful system of air defense means missed dozens of drones and winged missiles?”.

Al-Askari pointed out that the strongest air defense system in the region has been deployed in recent years, thanks to the United States, on the territory of Saudi Arabia, especially in the northern part, pointing out that these radars belonging to this system provides “unified radar space” over the territory of the country.

The same source said that the air defense system in Saudi Arabia includes 88 “Patriot” systems, in addition to three US destroyers equipped with “Aegis” air defense systems are stationed in the Gulf waters.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that “sometimes the air defense systems around the world show a contradictory result,” the official said that this hypothesis can only be accepted “if we are talking about a single Patriot system covering a site under attack.”

“There can be only one reason behind this: the Patriot and Aegis missile systems that the United States promoted do not conform to their stated specifications. Their effectiveness is low in combating small-scale aerial targets and winged missiles. They are simply not prepared to deal with them,” the military official said. The enemy resorted to widespread use of air attack means in combat conditions.”

Saudi Arabia’s crude oil production has fallen by nearly half its normal volume as a result of a September 14 attack on Aramco’s facilities.

The group “Ansar Allah” (Houthis) claimed responsibility for the attack, while the authorities of the United Kingdom and the United States accused Iran of being behind it, a charge denied by Tehran.
