Drone attack defeated near Hmeimim base in Syria

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Several drones launched by radicals have been neutralized near the Russian air base in Hmeimim, according to the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Parties to the Conflict in Syria.

The radicals launched several drones in the direction of the Russian air base of Hmeimim, in the Syrian governorate of Latakia, the drones were neutralized, said Sunday February 2, Youri Borenkov, head of the Russian Center for the reconciliation of the parties in conflict in Syria.

“On February 1, around 11:00 p.m. Moscow time (8:00 p.m. UTC), air traffic control at the Russian base Hmeimim detected a multiple target made up of drones, which had been launched from the territory controlled by the radicals in the area de-escalation of Idlib. Electronic warfare systems have intercepted and neutralized the drones,” said Borenkov.

He said the drone attack left no one injured. The Hmeimim base continues to operate.

In recent months, the base has been the target of dozens of drone attacks, all of which have been repelled, according to the Russian Center and the Syrian news agency Sana.
