Eight thousand soldiers from 28 countries participate in the “prepared lion” exercises in Jordan

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — Jordan’s “prepared lion ” maneuvers kicked off in Jordan on Sunday with the participation of 8,000 military personnel from 28 countries, including the United States, Britain, France and Germany, with operations on “counter-terrorism” and ways to boost border security.

“We announce the start of the (prepared Assad) exercise with the participation of 8,000 participants from about 30 countries,” media spokesman for the maneuvers, Brigadier General Mohammad Thalji, told a news conference.

“The scenario of this exercise will simulate the reality and dictate to us the conditions and challenges we face in this region and the world,” Snowji said. He added that “the exercise will contribute to strengthening the capabilities of the armed forces of various types and types of weapons to work together in the face of one enemy.”

The exercises will include “a very important exercise simulating dealing with the simultaneous crises of military operations such as the problems of refugees and epidemics and their spread, the movement of local people and food shortages,” the spokesman said.

The Jordanian military said in a statement that the exercises are aimed at “strengthening cooperation and joint action among countries involved in the fight against terrorism” and developing the security capabilities of the border guards, “training in conventional and non-conventional operations,” command and control leases, and “communications”.

The exercise will take place in the fields, centers and training schools of the Jordanian Armed Forces with the participation of various types of land, air and naval weapons, the statement said.

According to the same statement, troops from 28 countries – the United States, France, Germany, Britain, Spain, Italy, Australia, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Greece, Norway, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, Canada, Japan, Brunei, Kenya and Tajikistan – are also taking part.

This is the ninth consecutive “prepared lion” exercise on the territory of the Kingdom. The maneuvers last year were limited to Jordanian-American participation only, and took place from April 15 to 26 and participated by 3,500 US troops.

Jordan is a key ally of Washington in the Middle East, and since 2014 has led an international alliance against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.
