QATAR (OBSERVATORY) – Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in talks with US President Donald Trump in the White House said that he would work with the US to combat the financing of terrorism.
“We are working to stop the financing of terrorism in the countries with which we are really connected … These countries stop financing terrorism, such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and others,” Trump said at the meeting.
In turn, the emir noted that Qatar “does not tolerate and will not tolerate people who finance terrorism.” “We are cooperating with the United States to stop financing terrorism in the region (Middle East),” he said.
The problem of financing terrorism in 2017 led to the severance of diplomatic relations between Qatar and Saudi Arabia and a number of other countries in the region who accused the emirate of such support for terrorists and actually imposed a blockade against it. Trump stated his readiness to mediate in the settlement of this conflict, but he drew attention to the fact that it was necessary to fight the financing of terrorism.
During the conversation, Trump also expressed the hope that the trade turnover between the two countries next year will double by the current $ 125 million.
In particular, on Tuesday the American company Boeing announced that it had signed a memorandum with Qatar on the delivery of five aircraft for a total of $ 1.7 billion. In addition, the State Department previously approved the sale of high-precision missiles to Qatar for a total of $ 300 million.
