Erdogan: We will not stand idly by by the changes in our region

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that Turkey will not stand idle about regional and global changes in the region.

This came in a speech during his participation in the opening of the new building of the Turkish Intelligence Agency in the capital, Ankara.

Erdogan said: “We will not stand idly by against the complex and changing landscape resulting from the competition of regional and global powers in our region.”

He added that the existing regional alliances against his country in the eastern Mediterranean are of great importance in Turkey’s near future.

In his speech, the Turkish President touched on the honorable role of Turkish intelligence at the global level.

He particularly praised its role in highlighting the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, and in targeting the leaders of the PKK terrorist organization in northern Iraq.

He stressed that Turkish intelligence “has now the ability to move around the world without the help of other countries.”

He stressed the need to develop Turkish intelligence in all areas in light of the threats that Turkey is exposed to inside and outside Turkey.

And he clarified – in this regard – that Turkey “seeks during the coming period to establish a more effective intelligence structure in the field of technologies and cyber security.”
