EU agrees to list sanctions on Turkey for exploration

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — European Union governments agreed on Monday to draw up a list of economic sanctions targeting Turkish oil and gas exploration in waters off Cyprus, but the list will not include names for the time being.

The EU foreign ministers agreed to “develop a framework for punitive measures targeting natural and legal persons responsible for or involved in illicit hydrocarbon exploration activities in the Eastern Mediterranean”.

EU foreign policy officials will now have to propose names.
