UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – The European Commission expressed its readiness to respond immediately to any additional customs duties imposed by the United States on EU products.
“If the United States applies any additional tariff on European goods, the EU is ready to respond quickly,” European Commission spokesman Daniel Rosario told a news conference Tuesday.
The European diplomat also noted that the European Union and the United States are currently working towards a “closer economic partnership”, within the framework of agreements reached between Brussels and Washington last month.
The European Union and the United States agreed in July to calm down and refrain from exchanging tariffs on products of the two countries during trade negotiations, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said.
The European Union and the United States agreed last month to set up an executive working group of close advisers to European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and US President Donald Trump to promote trade agreements between the two sides.
