US, WASHINGTON (NEWS OBSERVATORY) — The explosion occurred on Friday at the Saipol factory near the city of Rouen (department of Seine-Seine) in northwestern France. According to France Bleu radio station, a fire started at the enterprise.
According to her, the company’s employees were evacuated. As the department’s prefecture indicated on Twitter, firefighters arrived at the site and a 500-meter security perimeter was installed.
The plant has the European classification of Seveso, which means the presence of substances hazardous to humans at the enterprise. The classification was introduced after a dioxin disaster at a chemical plant in the Italian city of Seveso in 1976.
