UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Five Italian soldiers were wounded on Sunday in an attack on an Italian military convoy in Iraq, according to the Italian General Staff.
There was no immediate announcement from the Iraqi authorities about the attack.
The Commission, in a statement, that a bomb attack targeted a convoy of Italian special units, located in Iraq to combat the organization “Daesh” terrorist, and to provide guidance and education services to the Iraqi armed forces.
She added that the attack occurred during the passage of the convoy, and wounded 5 Italian soldiers, 3 of them in critical condition, without posing a risk to their lives.
She explained that the wounded soldiers were transported by US helicopter to hospitals for treatment.
The Italian defense minister, Lorenzo Guerrini, and the chief of staff, Enzo Vecchiarelli, are following the matter closely.
The prosecution in the Italian capital Rome began an investigation into the circumstances of what happened, to determine whether it was a terrorist attack or not.
