Former Israeli leader: We are not able to fight a war now

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) —  On Sunday, a former Israeli military official questioned his country’s readiness to fight any war today.

This came in statements made by Major-General (Reserve), Yitzhak Brik, former Israeli army complaints chief for Yedioth Ahronoth.

“Brick” statements came the day after the newspaper published a secret internal army report that revealed major shortcomings of the largest Israeli reserve squad.

“The classified report revealed by the newspaper indicated, among other things, a severe shortage of vehicles to transport soldiers and equipment to the battlefield, and huge gaps in the medical and logistical workforce of Division 319 is only the tip of the iceberg in everything related to the army’s readiness for war,” the former official said. .

“The situation is much more dangerous,” he added.

The 319th Brigade was led by General Ariel Sharon in the June 1967 war, and participated in the Egyptian occupation of Sinai before submitting to the Northern Command.

The secret report includes internal assessments conducted by the so-called “Army observer unit” of the group, which is supposed to be one of the first participants in the event of a war in Lebanon.

The report raised questions in Israel about the level of preparedness of ground forces for war.

However, “Brick” assured the newspaper that “all the IDF reserve teams are facing the same problem.”

“I can say that the army is not prepared for the war in terms of logistics.”

“Sixty-year-old trucks, worn out, with perforated tires, fuel tanks without brakes, so ammunition, fuel and spare parts cannot be transported during the war. The war will stop within a day or two, as there is no logistical front.”

The former military official accused the Israeli army leaders of lying and hiding the real situation.

It is noteworthy that the newspaper had published in 2017 an internal document in the army that revealed “disturbing failures” in training regular and ground units in the armored corps, the infantry, and the engineering.

Brik pointed out that the situation in the regular forces is not as bad as the reserve teams.

He added to the newspaper, “All that has been revealed about the 319th division is taking place today in the regular units regarding the maintenance of tanks and armored personnel carriers.”
