UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – The G7 countries are considering the possibility of imposing new sanctions against the Russian Federation because of the situation in the Donbass, according to a joint statement by G7 foreign ministers and EU foreign affairs representative Federica Mogherini.
The statement was signed by the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States and the High Representative of the European Union.
The authors of the statement are convinced of the rightness of Ukraine in the conflict in the Donbass and the rights of Kiev to the Crimea.
“We reaffirm our unchanged support for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. We recognize Russia’s violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. We condemn the degrading situation with human rights on the peninsula, as well as violations and abuses of Russia in the Crimea”, the G7 statement says.
“We fully support efforts in the Norman format and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to resolve the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
We are convinced that the only way to ensure a lasting settlement of the conflict is the full implementation of the Minsk agreements. Given Russia’s responsibility in the conflict, we urge Russia to immediately stabilize the security situation in the Donbass. It should be recalled that the duration of economic sanctions (associated with the Russian Federation – Ed.) Related to Donbass is clearly linked to the full and irreversible implementation of the Minsk Agreements by Russia.
These sanctions can be lifted only if Russia really fulfills its obligations, but we are also ready to take additional restrictive measures if this is required by Russia’s actions, “the statement of the G7 and EU states.
