UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — US stocks rose on Wednesday after recovering from initial losses on gains in energy and financial institutions, but investors remain cautious about the prospect of another escalation in trade tensions between the United States and China.
The Dow Jones industrial average ended 257.65 points, or 1.00 percent, at 26035.55.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index <.SPX> was up 18.78 points, or 0.65 percent, to close at 2,887.94.
The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 29.94 points, or 0.38 percent, at 7,856.88.
