UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – His wife Barbara is in a “poor” health condition and has decided to stop seeking medical treatment, the office of former US President George HW Bush said in a statement on Sunday.
The former US First Lady, also the mother of former President George W. Bush, “will focus instead on receiving pain relief,” the Houston statement said.
The brief statement did not indicate the nature of the 92-year-old Barbara Bush disease, but said she had been treated in hospitals many times recently.
CNN reported suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure. A spokesman for the Bush family said she was being cared for at home, without giving information on the nature of her illness.
“She is surrounded by a family she loves, and she is grateful for the many messages of affection, especially the prayer she receives,” the statement said.
Barbara Bush was the first American lady from 1989 to the beginning of 1993, and was a beloved figure.
Her husband was the 41st president of the United States, now 93 years old. Her son, the 43-year-old American, was 71 years old.
Her son, Jib, was governor of Florida and failed to reach the presidency in 2015 and early 2016.
