UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — The number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in Germany has increased to five, authorities announced.
The number of confirmed cases, which has so far been four, including one woman, has increased after the disease was recently reported to another person, the Bavarian Ministry of Health reported.
According to the ministry’s announcement, the last affected person worked at a company in the Starnberg region along with four people confirmed earlier.
The ministry said 110 other people working in the same firm and who had contact with the infected are being searched.
On the other hand, German Minister of Health Jens Spahn, invited to a program on the ZDF channel, said that declaring a state of emergency by the World Health Organization is important for the international community’s co-operation and co-ordination.
Spahn said Germany intends to return about 100 of its citizens in Wuhan, the Chinese city where the epidemic broke out, and added that the German Foreign Ministry is trying to achieve results by contacting Chinese authorities.
Otherwise, coronavirus has so far claimed the lives of at least 213 people in China, with over 9,000 infected. Also, more than 60,000 people have been under medical surveillance.
Since the outbreak of the epidemic late last year, China has placed the city of Wuhan, where the virus appeared, under a deadlock in an effort to prevent the spread.
In addition to China, cases of the virus have also been recorded in Japan, South Korea, Thailand, the US, Singapore, France, Germany, Vietnam and Canada.
Travelers from China are being screened at airports around the world, while many airlines have suspended flights to Wuhan.
