Germany sees no legal justification for Turkey’s operations against Kurds in Syria

GERMANY (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Germany sees no legal justification for Turkey’s operations against Kurds in northern Syria, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Monday.

“Under the current circumstances, we cannot see how the current situation in Syria can justify a military intervention directed against Kurdish groups,” the spokesman told a regular news conference.

A spokesman for the German chancellor said that although Berlin recognized Turkey had legitimate security interests, it could not see how military intervention could help stabilize the region.
