UNITED KINGDOM (NEWS OBSERVATORY) — The British government will implement Brexit on October 31 and intends to work out a new partnership scheme with the European Union, which will strengthen the sustainability of the British economy, confirmed the British Queen Elizabeth II.
The Queen of Great Britain on Monday speaks at the official opening ceremony of the new parliamentary session with a throne speech in which she will state the priorities of the government for the coming year.
This session of the parliament’s work promises to be historic: in the course of it, finally, more than three years after the referendum, the fate of Brexit should be determined.
“My government intends to carry out the country’s exit from the European Union on October 31, it intends to work on a new partnership with the EU, which will be based on the principles of free trade and mutually beneficial cooperation,” said Elizabeth II.
“My ministers will introduce new regimes (regulations) for the fishing industry, agriculture and trade, using all the opportunities that open for us after leaving the EU,” she added.
The Queen’s speech is dedicated to the internal agenda. The monarch said that the British government will support the development of high-tech industries, participate in space exploration, and support the combat effectiveness of the British army. A significant part of the speech was devoted, as Prime Minister Boris Johnson had promised earlier, to the government’s plans to solve social problems.
“The government will support and strengthen the NHS national health care system and propose steps to reform the social assistance system in England,” the queen said.
The government intends to reform the law enforcement system. In particular, said Elizabeth II, the cabinet will propose to the parliament a series of laws that would allow “the most dangerous criminals to be detained longer, which would better correspond to the gravity of the crimes committed.” Among the planned – strengthening the fight against foreign criminals, with particularly serious crimes and the expansion of police powers.
The queen also confirmed the prime minister’s previous statements about increasing funding for the police.
