UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – Deputy head of Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip Khalil al-Hayy called the death of dozens of Palestinians on Monday “a Zionist crime” and called for a new intifada (Palestinian uprising).
“A natural response to the killing of peaceful demonstrators will be the Arab and Muslim intifada,” the website of the Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot quoted him as saying.
Earlier, the newspaper of the Times of Israel, citing the Palestinian calculations, reported that the number of victims of the riots on the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel on Monday increased to 52 people. According to her, over 1.2 thousand people were injured.
It is noted that all the dead and injured are members of an anti-Israeli rally organized by the Palestinians.
On May 15, the Palestinians celebrate the Nakba Day or the “Day of Catastrophe” in connection with the founding of the State of Israel on May 14, 1948, which led to massive evictions of Arabs from Israeli territory.
The upsurge in the protest moods of the Palestinians was also affected by the opening on May 14 of a new American embassy in Jerusalem.
