Hong Kong protesters rally against ban on wearing masks

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — Defiant protesters in Hong Kong are challenging a ban on face masks which is now in effect.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam has invoked a colonial-era law to enforce the ban, and gain greater powers to clamp down on pro-democracy protesters.

Police have been battling demonstrators who attacked Chinese shops, vandalised subway stations and set fires on the streets.
