Idlib rebel attack (VIDEO)

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Syrian agency SANA released a video of the reflection of the attack by militants in the area of the village of Nayrab west of Sarakib in Idlib province.

The shots taken from the drone show the destruction of terrorist equipment, including tanks, armored personnel carriers and pickup trucks with weapons.

As previously reported by the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the warring parties (CPVS) in Syria, on Thursday militants, with artillery support from the Turkish military, tried to break through the positions of government forces.

At the request of Damascus, the Su-24 Russian airborne forces struck them, which allowed the Syrians to successfully repel all attacks. CPVS called on Ankara to stop supporting terrorists.

Subsequently, Turkish authorities reported “no problems” with Russia on Idlib. In turn, Moscow noted that Ankara violates the agreement by supporting the militants. As stressed in the Foreign Ministry, Turkey’s actions could lead to an escalation of the conflict.

Negotiations of the leaders of Russia and Turkey

On Friday, the presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Tayyip Erdogan, over the phone discussed the situation in Idlib. The Russian leader during the conversation expressed serious concern about the aggressive actions in the region of extremist groups.

The presidents of Russia and Turkey agreed to intensify bilateral interagency consultations on Idlib to reduce tension, ceasefire and neutralize the terrorist threat.

In addition, they confirmed that contacts between the military departments will continue in intensive mode.

As the Kremlin noted, the conversation was initiated by the Turkish side.

The situation in the northwest of Syria

In late January, the Syrian army launched an offensive in Idlib and Aleppo in connection with daily terrorist bombardments of residential areas, which killed dozens of civilians. In a month, government forces managed to liberate more than 600 square kilometers, the large city of Maarat Numan and the M5 Damascus-Aleppo highway.

Ankara reported losses among the military due to the actions of Damascus and demanded to stop moving deeper into the province. The Syrian and Russian authorities, in turn, noted that the actions of government forces aimed at cleansing Idlib from terrorists.
