In Baghdad, recorded a second death from coronavirus

US, WASHINGTON (NEWS OBSERVATORY) — A second coronavirus death has been reported in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, the ministry of health said in a statement.

Earlier Wednesday, the first death from a coronavirus in Baghdad was reported.

“The Ministry of Health and the Environment reports that the death of a second person who was previously infected with a new coronavirus was recorded in Baghdad,” the ministry said on Facebook.

The agency said that a 65-year-old man was the victim of coronavirus.

Earlier Wednesday, Rudaw reported that the 70-year-old religious official from Sulaymaniyah in Iraqi Kurdistan was the first victim of a coronavirus in Iraq . The Iraqi Ministry of Health later said there was no confirmation of whether it was infected with a coronavirus.

On December 31, 2019, the Chinese authorities informed the World Health Organization (WHO) about an outbreak of unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan in the central part of the country (Hubei Province).

Experts have identified the causative agent of the disease – this is a new coronavirus. WHO recognized the outbreak as an emergency of international importance and gave the disease its official name – COVID-19.

The number of infected in mainland China exceeded 80 thousand people, 2946 died. Cases of infection outside the PRC were recorded, according to the latest WHO data, in 72 countries, the number of infected exceeded 10 thousand, more than 160 people died
