GREECE (OBSERVATORY) – Anti-war demonstrations were held in the evening on Friday in Athens, protesters burned an American flag near the US embassy, ​​the Greek media reported.

Separate demonstrations in the center of Athens were organized by the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and extra-parliamentary left parties and organizations, which expressed regret that the Communists decided to hold their rally separately.

The main slogan of the demonstrations is “Greece should not be involved in a possible US operation in Syria,” writes the “Proto Theme” newspaper. Several thousand people participated in the action.

The protesters marched to the US embassy under the slogan “The enemy is one – this is imperialism.” Near the American embassy they launched posters “The US, NATO, the EU, hands off of Syria,” “Yankees, go-homes,” “Down with NATO and the bases,” the newspaper notes.

“Unfortunately, the danger of a general imperialist war is growing, and the Greek government has a tremendous responsibility to our people,” said Dimitris Koutsoumpas, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, whose words are quoted by the party’s press service.

According to him, the Greek government should not allow the use of military bases on the Greek territory by the Americans and NATO, which, in addition, are also targets for attacks.

Extra-parliamentary parties, including People’s Unity and ANTARCTICA, said that Greece and Cyprus at this critical hour have no reason to participate in and support Western military plans that threaten Greece’s national interests, peace and security in the region.

“The US and its allies are preparing to plunge the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East into the fire, and we demand that the Greek territories, sea and air space are not used in the interests of the US We are fighting for peace throughout the region,” the statement of the extra- unity. “
