GAZA STRIP (OBSERVATORY) – The IDF destroyed another tunnel that Palestinian militants from the Gaza Strip penetrated into the territory of the Jewish state, a statement posted on the army website said.
The underground passage, which, according to the military, belonged to the ruling Hamas movement in the enclave, was located near the city of Jabalia, in the north of the Gaza Strip.
“The tunnel for kilometers went deeper into Gaza, and, according to our estimates, this is the beginning of a network of tunnels in the enclave,” – quotes the document of army spokesman Brigadier General Ronen Manelis.
According to him, during the operation, it was possible to destroy not only the “concrete tunnel that penetrated the territory of Israel,” but also “its valuable infrastructure in Gaza.”
Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman commented on the operation of the army, noting that the destroyed tunnel was “the longest and deepest” of those discovered earlier.
“We start the week with an impressive army and intelligence operation, during which another terrorist tunnel was destroyed, the longest and deepest one ever found,” the minister wrote in his Twitter.
