UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – The possibility of new US strikes against Syria depends largely on whether Washington will succeed in uniting other countries around itself, said Konstantin Kosachev, chairman of the Federation Council’s international affairs committee.
“It depends very much on how successful the Americans are, or will not be able to unite in this frankly fabricated situation, unite around a large group of states,” Kosachev said in response to journalists’ question about the possibility of new attacks by the Western coalition on Syria.
“It’s clear that they will be with NATO, it’s clear that they will be with the EU countries, but this is definitely not the majority of humanity. Now it is very important that the majority turn out to be in the positions of international law, in the positions of denying American actions in Syria. perhaps, the Americans will be able to stop, “Kosachev added.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump addressed an appeal to the nation, in which he announced strikes against Syria. Later strikes were confirmed by British Prime Minister Theresa May, as well as the Elysee Palace. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that on April 14, from 3.42 Moscow time to 5.10 Moscow time, planes and ships of the US Armed Forces, together with the British and French Air Forces, struck a missile strike at military and civil infrastructure facilities in the Syrian Arab Republic.
More than 100 cruise missiles and air-to-surface missiles were fired, a significant part of which was shot down by Syrian air defense means on approach to targets, RF Defense Ministry said. Earlier, Washington, London and Paris said that the attacks were a response to the alleged use of chemical weapons in the Syrian city of Dumas, which the Syrian authorities denied.
