UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – Net profit of the US company Intel, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of computer components, in the I quarter of 2018 increased by 1.5 times compared to the same period in 2017 to $ 4.4 billion, the company said.
Diluted earnings per share were $ 0.93 compared to $ 0.61 a year earlier. Revenue was $ 16.066 billion, an increase of 8.6%.
During the same period, Intel’s revenue for the development of components for personal computers – the largest division of the company – was $ 8.22 billion, up by 3% year-on-year. The revenue of the data center division grew by 24% to $ 5.234 billion.
The head of Intel said that by the end of this year will be released 14-nm processors of the new generation: Cascade Lake for the server segment and Whiskey Lake for client solutions. From early leaks it is known that the latter will find use in laptops. The conventional designation of the corresponding version of the technological process is “14 nm ++”.
“Compared with the forecast for the first quarter, set in January, revenue, operating margin and equity were higher than forecasts,” the company’s CFO Bob Souna said in a release.
The revenue of Data Center Group increased by 24% compared to the previous year and amounted to $ 5.2 billion.
As for other areas of Intel business, the Internet of things and programmable solutions brought chipmaker $ 840 million and $ 498 million respectively, and the Non-Volatile Memory Solutions division, which sells devices based on non-volatile memory, reported revenue of $ 1 billion.
