Iran cannot decrypt Boeing recorders

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif confirmed on Saturday that Iranian experts could not decrypt the records of the flight recorders of the Ukrainian airliner shot down on January 8 near Tehran.

As Zarif told NBC, Iran does not intend to touch the black boxes without representatives of all interested parties.

According to the minister, Iranian experts lack experience and specialized software. “Why didn’t the United States help us? It’s a humanitarian issue,” Zarif said.

The Iranian Foreign Minister noted that his country is more than anyone interested in investigating the disaster and has the right to lead an expert group. “There are many more unknowns,” the minister said.

The UIA Boeing 737-800, flying from Tehran to Kiev, was shot down by the Iranian air defense system immediately after takeoff. Killed 167 passengers and nine crew members.
