Iran: Shooting down the Ukrainian plane is an unforgivable mistake

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a televised speech on Tuesday that Iran would punish all those involved in the crash of a Ukrainian airliner, adding that an in-depth investigation would be conducted into this “tragic” accident.

“It was an unforgivable mistake … One person cannot be held responsible for the plane accident.”

“Acknowledging its mistake by the Iranian armed forces is a good first step … We must reassure people that this will not happen again,” he said, adding that his government was “accountable to the Iranian nation and other countries that lost nationals in the incident.”
