UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Iran began pouring cement at a second nuclear power plant on Sunday, state television reported, in an important step to build the plant in the southern city of Bushehr with Russian help.
“Nuclear power provides reliable electricity,” Ali Akbar Salehi, director of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, told a televised ceremony. “Every nuclear plant provides us with 11 million barrels of oil, or $ 660 million a year.”
Two sources familiar with the situation in late October said the United States planned to allow Russian, Chinese and European companies to continue working on Iran’s nuclear facilities to make it harder for Iran to develop nuclear weapons.
