Iran unveils combat helicopter capable of hitting targets outside the country “very accurately”

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — Iran on Sunday unveiled a new combat aircraft that could strike targets with “very high accuracy” outside the country’s borders.

The commander of the Iranian Air Defense Force, Brigadier General Ali Reza Sabahi Fard, according to the official IRNA news agency, said the plane, dubbed “Kayan” was designed, built and tested in just a year.

Brigadier Alireza said the aircraft was designed “in two types, with a high-speed capability for interception and reconnaissance missions and the continuity of high-flying missions for very high accuracy.”

The orange-and-white plane was unveiled.

The Iranian military official said that the drone has the ability to fly “for more than a thousand kilometers and find its target accurately” and is able to “target targets far from the borders of the country and secure air defense in enemy territory.”

Iranian television channels said the plane was also capable of carrying several types of ammunition and flying at an altitude of 5,000 meters.

The announcement comes amid tensions between Tehran and Washington following the unilateral withdrawal of the United States from the international agreement on Iran’s nuclear and re-impose harsh US sanctions stifling the economy in Iran.

Tensions between the two countries have been further escalated after mysterious attacks on ships in the Gulf in May and June.

Iran shot down a US drone, according to Tehran, while the United States downed another plane that Iran denied belonging to it.

Drones have also been at the center of tensions in recent days, particularly in Lebanon, where Hezbollah has accused Israel of carrying out an attack by two drones on its stronghold in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
