UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – Iranian Defense Minister Amir Khatami arrived in Damascus on a two-day visit on Sunday, Iranian news agency IRNA reported.
On arrival at the airport, the minister was greeted by representatives of the Syrian military department, Iranian Ambassador to Syria Javad Torkabadi and Iranian military attache.
As expected, during the trip, the head of the Iranian Defense Ministry will meet with Syrian President Bashar Assad.
Iran, along with the Russian Federation and Turkey, is the guarantor of the ceasefire in the RAA.
Armed conflict in Syria continues from 2011. At the end of 2017, it was announced that it had defeated the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, in Syria and Iraq. In some areas of Syria, with the assistance of the Russian military aviation security, strikes from militants continue.
At the moment, the political settlement, the restoration of Syria, and the return of refugees are at the forefront.
