IRAN (OBSERVATORY) – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has announced that he will stop using the Russian Telegram application and will start using local applications instead.
The announcement came at a time when Iran said it would ban applications of foreign messages in public institutions.
It was reported that Iran was planning to ban the Russian Telegram application completely.
Officials in Iran say the application, used by more than 40 million Iranians, was used to incite violence during anti-government demonstrations late last year.
But Iranian President Hassan Rouhani defended the use of text messaging applications and said it was beneficial for business owners.
